Background and objectives

Following the merger of MPS Bauplanung and ARCHONIC, the new MPS ARCHONIC headquarters was established in Stuttgart. The new office was designed to achieve far more than simply bringing together the teams from Stuttgart and Bietigheim-Bissingen. It was intended to make the organisational and cultural transformation of the newly united company tangible and visible throughout the workplace.

At the same time, the project aimed to strengthen collaboration between the disciplines that define the MPS ARCHONIC planning approach – architecture, factory planning, process optimisation and interior architecture. This required flexible workspaces and collaboration areas that could adapt to changing project teams and working methods. Another key objective was the introduction of a desk-sharing concept, accompanied by a carefully managed change process to support employees transitioning from different working environments.

Implementation and challenge

1. Analysis

The project began with a comprehensive workplace analysis covering both former office locations. Existing working methods, project workflows, communication requirements and the specific needs of the different disciplines were systematically evaluated and compared.

Combined with insights gained from the existing workplace environment in Bietigheim-Bissingen, this formed the basis for a tailored spatial and functional programme that supports interdisciplinary collaboration, strengthens cooperation across teams and provides the flexibility required for future growth.

2. Concept

The office follows a multispace workplace concept, combining individual workstations with a variety of communication, meeting, focus and retreat areas. The reception area was intentionally designed as an open and welcoming communication hub that also serves as the central space for collaboration and events.

Flexible meeting rooms accommodate everything from formal meetings to creative workshops, supporting different project phases and ways of working. A key feature of the concept is the work café with direct access to the rooftop terrace, creating an informal meeting place that has become one of the social focal points of the office.

3. Design

The interior design is based on the guiding concept Industry Remixed, directly reflecting MPS ARCHONIC's core expertise in planning industrial workplaces and production environments. Industrial materials and finishes are deliberately reinterpreted and translated into a contemporary, high-quality office environment.

Exposed concrete, steel and raw-textured surfaces create a distinctive industrial character while maintaining a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. Carefully integrated corporate design elements and strategically placed accent colours strengthen the company's visual identity and create a coherent overall design language throughout the workplace.

4. Realisation

The new building provided the opportunity to combine several previously separate office units into one connected working environment. Structural interventions were intentionally limited to a few key elements. These included the extension of the sanitary and service core, the creation of technical infrastructure, printing and support facilities, as well as a compact central volume accommodating meeting rooms and quiet spaces. The remaining floor area was deliberately kept as open as possible, allowing for future growth, higher occupancy densities and flexible temporary uses for projects and events.

Planning and implementation were carried out through the close collaboration of MPS ARCHONIC's own architects, interior architects, MEP engineers and project managers. The interior combines carefully selected standard furniture with bespoke joinery, custom-designed furniture and individually developed spatial elements. The collaborative development of the new workplace itself became an integral part of the change process, strengthening employee identification with both the new headquarters and the shared corporate culture.

The result

The result is a versatile and highly flexible workplace that brings together a wide range of working styles and usage scenarios. Open workspaces are complemented by numerous easily accessible areas for focused work, informal meetings and quiet retreat, while generous collaboration spaces support interdisciplinary project work.

The office translates the professional expertise and design identity of MPS ARCHONIC into a physical environment that can readily adapt to changing organisational needs. Its open and flexible layout also makes it suitable for internal and external events for approximately 20 to 100 participants. As such, the new headquarters serves as a living showcase for our clients, demonstrating how spatial transformation, new ways of working and flexible workplace concepts can be successfully integrated into a single, future-oriented environment.
