Background and objectives

The Eckert & Ziegler Group stands as one of the foremost global providers of isotope technology, catering to medical, scientific, and industrial sectors. At the heart of its operations lie cancer therapy, industrial radiometry, and nuclear medical imaging. The Group's business portfolio encompasses two primary segments: Medical and Isotope Products.

Eckert & Ziegler traces its origins back to 1997, when it was established as a holding company. Its oldest subsidiary, Eckert & Ziegler BEBIG GmbH, has a rich history that precedes it, stemming from the Zentralinstitut für Isotopentechnik, a research institute affiliated with the former Academy of Sciences of the GDR.

In 2022, Qikang Medical Technology (Changzhou) Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Eckert & Ziegler Group, embarked on the construction of a cutting-edge radio-pharmaceutical facility in Jintan, Changzhou. The cornerstone of this project is to erect a customized facility comprising a bunker, basement, laboratories, and an office building, with the goal of producing diverse isotopes to advance cancer treatment in China and globally.

Implementation and Change

The new facility boasts a four-storey structure, spanning a land area of 6,603 m² and a total construction area of approximately 9,800 m². MPS ARCHONIC has been instrumental in providing comprehensive support throughout the project's lifecycle, from preliminary planning to final execution. We devised a highly flexible plan for a specialized particle accelerator bunker, incorporating four target rooms and at least four production lines for the manufacture of various isotopes, alongside micro labs and cleanrooms, forming the backbone of the facility. Notably, the facility features a striking façade adorned with an iconic "dragon head" design, mirroring the aesthetic of its headquarter in Berlin. Furthermore, we navigated the intricate process of obtaining government approvals, adhering to stringent regulations pertaining to radiation safety and building codes.

The result

The result of the project is a high-end pharmaceutical facility that exemplifies the utmost flexibility and safety. It enables the production of a diverse range of isotopes, contributing significantly to enhancing life science. The facility's state-of-the-art design, complete with a gleaming façade and iconic elements, has transformed it into a landmark in the region.
